John Chan, B.Sc., Lict. Acct., CA
John is a graduate of the University of British Columbia and entered the accounting profession in 1976.Throughout the years, John's professional development education has been ongoing and has included taking courses offered by the Institute of Chartered Accountants and the Canadian Tax Foundation. John has also provided instruction to students at North Island College. John and his wife Bania are proud parents to three beautiful girls. Erica and Danna Chan have spent numerous summers developing their accounting skills and have followed in their father's footsteps and joined the vocation. Erica passed the CA Profession's Uniform Evaluation (UFE) in 2006 and joined Chan Nowosad Boates in 2008 and Danna surprised her family and passed the UFE in 2007, two years ahead of schedule. John's oldest daughter completed medical school and is a resident at Vancouver General Hospital with an internal medicine specialty.

Shelly Boates, CA
Shelly entered the accounting profession in 1988 with Chan Nowosad & Co. and obtained her CA designation in January 1995. In 1996 she became a partner and the firm became Chan Nowosad Boates, Chartered Accountants. Since 1995, Shelly's professional development has been ongoing and includes courses offered by the Institute of Chartered Accountants including Financial Planning and Local Government accounting. In 1996 she also assisted with the development and writing of an Audit Course for the ICABC accounting program. Shelly and her husband Dean are the proud parents of two wonderful boys, Jackson and Jordan. The boys are both enrolled in the French Immersion program with School District 72 and participate in the Campbell River Minor Hockey Assciation.

Erica Chan-Lafrance, B.Comm., CA
Erica graduated with a degree in Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Ottawa in 2005. She articled with a large international CA firm and passed her UFE in 2006. After marrying her love Marc, a physiotherapist she met while they went to the University of Ottawa, she returned to her hometown of Campbell River and to her father's (John Chan) Accounting firm. Erica Brings with her large firm experience in all area of audit, accounting and taxation. In their spare time, you will find Marc and Erica on the golf course, playing slo-pitch, and finishing their new home.

Ray Dagenais, B. Comm., CA
Ray obtained his Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of British Columbia in 1986. He articled and obtained his CA designation with Deloitte & Touché. After tours of duty with them in downtown Vancouver and Langley spanning eight years, he ventured over to Vancouver Island. There, he established his own chartered accounting firm and merged it into this firm in 2006. Ray specializes in corporate accounting and income tax planning for owner-managed businesses. When Ray isn't busy with his daughters, golf or old timers hockey, you will find him supporting community charities and events. Ray is past chair of the Campbell River Hospital Foundation and was a member of the Campbell River Daybreak Rotary Club. He is now the treasurer of both the Campbell River Public Art Gallery and the CR Networking Association. In the summer you will find Ray fully consumed with the Cops for Cancer and Howie Meeker Golf Tournament committees. Fore!

Dennis Berntson, CA, FMA
Dennis articled with Wharram Standeven & Co. in the Comox Valley and obtained his CA designation in 1993. He joined Ray Dagenais' Campbell River practice in 2000 and came to CNB in the 2006 merger of these two firms. Dennis' preferred areas of practice include small business advisory, taxation, and business valuations. His wonderful wife, Mo, helps to ensure Dennis' continued employment at CNB by supplying the firm's staff with delicious lemon loaf and muffins. Dennis has two beautiful daughters (one of whom is also a CA) and a wonderful son. His past community volunteer contributions include: pro-bono auditor of Comox District United Way, treasurer of Campbell River Judo Club, treasurer of Pioneer Hockey League, and coach of minor hockey and softball. Dennis' current extracurricular activities include: old timers hockey, slow-pitch, and golfing.

Janis Bossenberry, CA, CGA
Janis became a Certified General Accountant in 1989 and moved on to become a Chartered Accountant in 1994. She was the recipient of the C.G.A. Canada 3rd year silver medal, the 4th and 5th year gold medal in Taxation, and was the gold medal winner for the highest academic standing of all B.C., C.G.A. graduates. She was a partner in a Salmon Arm Chartered Accounting firm, and its predecessors, from 1995 through 2007. Janis moved to Campbell River and Chan Nowosad Boates in 2008, bringing with her more than 22 years experience in public accounting.
Janis's preferred areas of practice are: Personal and estate taxation, assurance services (reviews and audits), non-resident issues and providing support to small businesses.
Janis's husband, Don, is an avid golfer and sports spectator. Janis also plays golf (though not as well as Don!) and enjoys baking, sewing and walking in her spare time. Both Janis and Don are looking forward to becoming involved in their new home community of Campbell River.

Neil Chapman, BBA, CA
Neil graduated from Malaspina University-College with a Bachelor of Business Administration in 2007. He joined the CNB team after graduating, to fulfill his articling requirements. He obtained his CA designation in December of 2009. During his time at CNB he has practiced all areas of accounting, including small business services, personal and corporate taxation and assurance services. Neil was born and raised in Campbell River and married his high-school sweetheart, Ashley, in the summer of 2010. In his spare time, you will likely find Neil building something, as he is an accomplished carpenter and furniture maker. He also has a passion for the outdoors and enjoys many outdoor activities such as fishing, hunting, golfing, and walking the couple's dog, Kuma.

Julie Chenard, BBA, CA
Julie graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Camosun College in 2007. She began articling with Chan Nowosad Boates in early 2008. Julie successfully completed the Uniform Examination (UFE) in December 2009 and recently completed her articling hours to earn her CA designation. Julie enjoys assisting clients in a variety of areas, such as personal tax, proprietorships, corporations and audits. Julie recently married her love, Ryan, in the summer of 2010. Julie is actively involved in many community volunteer organizations. When Julie is not hard at work, she is found playing slo-pitch and volleyball!
